Entry #4: My Moniker

Many successful people in life have their own sort of motto that help them to succeed in their daily lives. Personal motivation is an important aspect of any person's success, and many of those most famous people. On an article posted to Linked In, it's claimed that "Every successful person has chosen to follow a philosophy based on their core values which determine the rules they live by, including to live with purpose and create daily intentions that serve as a road-map for life" (The Ultimate Duty).

One such example of a famous person's philosophy:

"I'm not here to be perfect, I'm here to be real." - Lady Gaga

By committing to this philosophy about wanting to be real rather than perfect, it encourages you to follow your own desires and not try to adhere to the audience and allow their vision of you to become what you try to be. Being yourself, especially as an entertainer who makes a living off of being a personality, is important.

A moniker that holds a heavy weight in my life is "You miss every shot you don't take." My whole life, I've struggled with indecisiveness and anxiety plaguing the way I go about my own life. It caused me to miss out on many experiences, and it continues to get in the way of living the life I truly want to live at times. I often find myself thinking about the possibility of failure rather than the positive outcomes of a situation, and deciding not to go through with it for that reason. However, I realized something crucial: by not even attempting to go through with an experience, I fail by default. I miss my shot at achieving success by never attempting to go after it. One such example that many people struggle is whether or not to pursue romance with someone they like. They often assume the person doesn't like them, or doesn't have the time for them, and they never even attempt to get close to the person they're interested in. By refusing to take their shot with this person, they default to fumbling them. What if the other person was interested? Well, now you'll never know. You've missed your shot by not taking it.

Personal philosophies can hold a large weight on whoever employs them. It's important to have a reason and purpose for the way you behave, otherwise you will find yourself often not knowing what to do in complex situations. If you have any personal monikers that you use, please tell me in the comments! I'd like to hear them!

  1. What's up! I enjoyed this a lot. It's been awesome observing your verbal contributions in class. It's great how unfiltered and "directly projecting your stream of consciousness" they are. This seems to be a wonderful peek into some potentially cool roads you are about to head down. It's very impressive that you have taken the time to recognize these things in your life. Now that you've put it out there, you can take action. This is a great step in the right direction. Keep mining that brain of yours. You'll be amazed at how it will change your life for the better when you start to get acquainted with your shadow.
